Absurd | 1981 | Italy | Joe D'Amato
An Italian take on John Carpenter's Halloween, Absurd features an indestructible babysitter murderer, a battle-hardened priest who's pursuing him and some irritating pesky kids who are fated to face off against the brutish monster. Featuring some rather intense violent sequences, including a woman's head being forced into a lit oven for an impromptu cooking, the film was seized just a few months after its VHS release from Medusa Video. The distributor, understandably wanting to avoid controversy, resubmitted the film after making the required cuts but most video dealers avoided this sanctioned version and continued to peddle the illegal tape, earning it a definitive prosecution in the courts.
