Contamination | 1980 | Italy | Luigi Cozzi
A rather entertaining riff of Ridley Scott’s Alien, Luigi Cozzi’s gore-soaked sci-fi features Ian McCulloch as Hubbard, an astronaut returned to Earth from Mars on a disastrous mission. When strange eggs begin cropping up all over New York, causing nearby people to explode, Hubbard and Holmes, a lady Colonel, join forces and track the eggs to a Colombian coffee plantation. What they discover there is an insidious plot against the entire planet, perpetrated by the strangest of enemies. The tape from VIP was hauled in due to the quite repetitive special effects of people’s stomach and chests exploding when in contact with the alien eggs. It was soon dropped however, and has since been downgraded to a certificate 15 too.
