Death Trap | 1977 | USA | Tobe Hooper
Filmed after the infamous Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Tobe Hooper unleashes this much gorier serial killer movie about the psychotic Judd, a proprietor of a hotel in the midst of the Louisiana swamps. Rather than treat his guests to hospitality and warmth, he attacks them crazily with a scythe and feeds their corpses to a quasi-pet crocodile he has around in the swamps. Featuring a similarly grimy atmosphere to Hooper’s more well-known work, Death Trap was actually one of the first films to be hauled in, presumably because it was distributed by Vipco who were raided quite early for their release of Driller Killer, only to be dropped eventually.
