Foxy Brown | 1974 | USA | Jack Hill
A fun and funky blaxploitation picture from the heyday of the genre, Foxy Brown was originally devised as a direct sequel to 1973’s Coffy with lead actress Pam Grier reprising the role before being changed last minute. The titular Foxy is tough-talking, ass-kicking heroine who tries to do the right thing in very trying circumstances, saving her brother Link from various bits of trouble. But when he reveals to his pursuers the identity of Foxy’s boyfriend (an undercover cop), Foxy is forced to take revenge when her lover is shot dead. Assuming the role of a prostitute, Foxy infiltrates the sex-slave ring of Miss Kathryn, the lady responsible for her suffering and embarks on a righteous mission to get justice for her loved ones. Featuring all the hallmarks of the genre like trash talking, cat fights and hugely fun shootouts, it was in fact a scene where Foxy is restrained and sexually assaulted that caused the film to end up as a nasty.
