Home Sweet Home | 1981 | USA | Nettie Pena
A rare instance of a Thanksgiving-themed slasher, Nettie Peña’s Home Sweet Home is a fairly mediocre effort in the genre that nonetheless manages to be memorable in more ways than one. Jay Jones, an incredibly muscular lunatic with an addiction to PCP, breaks out from the institution where he was committed and embarks on a spree of wanton murder as he escapes. At the Bradley home not too far away, a small group of friends and family gather to celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving festivities, unaware that the gurning villain Jay has closed in on the property, intent on victimising the entire household in his drug-addled stupor. As far as slashers go, it’s fairly generic in execution and style and is moderately restrained when it comes to the violent sequences, with only a mime character named ‘Mistake’ being a noteworthy element. One can only assume the explicit act of injecting PCP into a tongue or the theme of a child being in peril got this one banned. Who really knows with this one?
