Inferno | 1980 | Italy | Dario Argento
Dario Argento’s sequel to the spellbinding Suspiria, Inferno ramps up the supernatural happenings to an even more bizarre and terrifying level. Rose begins to suspect that all is not well with her apartment building; strange fantastic events seem to be afoot and feeling in danger, she writes to her brother Mark in Rome for his help. Discovering the story of the Three Mothers, Mark rushes to aid his sister when he suspects one of the Mothers lives in the building. Just as colourful and cinematically playful, Argento’s film landed itself on the nasties list for its violent sequences and a scene of a cat eating a mouse. It may also be just because Tenebrae was successfully prosecuted and they lumped this in with it seeing as they shared a director.
