Mad Foxes | 1981 | Spain | Paul Grau
It’s hard to put into words why a film like Mad Foxes ends up being one of the most entertaining trash epics to grace the screen, as most of its filming credentials and technical prowess are so universally shoddy. The threadbare narrative follows the assholery of Hal, a spoilt rich mummy’s boy who offends an equally disreputable biker gang of Nazi thugs, leading to them raping Hal’s girlfriend and assaulting him. What follows is a never-ending cycle of revenge upon revenge as the asshole and the gang constantly go at each other’s throats in the most violent fashion possible, including paltry kung-fu, impromptu penectomy, grenades tossed into toilets, garden shears forced into throats, maids being disembowelled and countless flaccid penises. The genuinely uncomfortable sexual violence, including hymen-breaking and a severed penis being shoved in the victim’s mouth would definitely have incensed the DPP’s sensibilities… despite the UK video version omitting all of these sequences, leaving sheer bad luck as the only viable reason for its seizure.
