Night of the Bloody Apes | 1969 | Mexico| Rene Cardona
While essentially a remake of the director's own 1962 movie Doctor of Doom, Night of the Bloody Apes is a Mexican splatter film with an interesting misnomer in the title (there is only one "Bloody Ape"). Dr. Krellman tries to save his son Julio from his leukemia with a revolutionary heart transplant. Using a gorilla heart for its stronger tissue, Krellman is shokced to discover that it instead transforms his son into a simian beast with a huge appetite for destruction, immediately going on a sex and murder rampage. The film was passed for the cinema with cuts, but the soon-to-be banned IFS VHS version was fully intact, including a variety of eye gougings, stabbings, scalpings and stock footage of open heart surgery.
