Prisoner of the Cannibal God | 1978 | Italy | Sergio Martino

Another Italian cannibal film a la Cannibal Holocaust, although this one actually came before then. Much lighter in tone with a breezy jungle romp feel, Martino’s film follows Susan as she ventures into the jungle with Professor Foster, searching for her missing husband in the deep jungle. Everyone on the expedition has differing motives for their involvement and once revealed, a cannibal tribe attack the group and subject them to a series of gruesome tortures. Containing the pre-requisite animal cruelty and a whole host of gory effects, the film was bound to get in trouble, especially when so many of its ilk were caught up in the scandal at the same time.
