Tenebrae | 1982| Italy | Dario Argento
From one of the maestros of Italian horror, Tenebrae is a giallo that evolved beyond usual tropes, becoming a frenetic, fast-paced operatic maelstrom of violence. Writer Peter O'Neal is disturbed to learn his latest book is being used rather publicly as a trigger point by a serial killer as he goes around the city slaughtering women. When the murders become ever more intense, Peter is confronted by more than just a simple murderer and instead is faced with horrendous demons from the past. With the DPP already irked at the film's cover art, which was censored when displayed on the London Underground, the film found its way on the banned list mainly due to an arm being hacked off with an axe.
