The Bogey Man | 1980 | USA | Ulli Lommel
A blending of elements of John Carpenter’s classic Halloween with Euro-horror supernatural elements, Ulli Lommel’s slasher picture gives us Lacey and Willie, siblings virtually ignored by their mother who’s obsessed with her new boyfriend, a rather abusive brute who ties the kids up. After Willie finally snaps and stabs him to death, they find themselves haunted as adults by the spectre of the horrible man when Lacey accidentally unleashes his shadow from the mirror she witnessed his murder in as a child. Rather unique for its time, the killer in the movie is an invisible aggressive force, similar to how the Final Destination movies would function much later. Vipco who released it were already under fire for Driller Killer, so it was easily hauled in over its violent scenes.
