The Burning | 1981 | USA | Tony Maylem
Getting its cue from Friday the 13th the year prior, The Burning spreads an equally wild campfire story focused on Cropsy, an embittered caretaker who stalks a campsite with his pair of gardening shears, intent on bloody retribution for his horrendous incineration resulting from a prank gone wrong. Thorn EMI, who released the uncut version on VHS, landed themselves in hot water when someone tattled that the BBFC version was cut while their release was not. They hurriedly tried to quell the furore by reissuing the film with a contentious finger-snipping and throat-slashing sequence removed, but as the uncut version was already out there, the DPP had to work its magic.
