Another video that was frequently cited as being one of the main video nasties for a long time, Xtro is a bewildering science fiction horror that has shades of Hellraiser and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Sam is lured out into the country before being abducted by a mysterious light in front of his son Tony. Three years later, an alien creature descends to Earth and gives birth to the fully-grown Sam, who returns to his family, shocking his wife Rachel who has since moved on. The awkward situation becomes ever more complicated when the alien Sam imparts special powers to his son, allowing his childish imagination to literally come alive and destroying those around him who’ve annoyed him. A mix of gross-out practical effects and odd dream-like powers similar to a Nightmare on Elm Street movie, the film found itself on the nasties list for the sequence of a woman graphically giving birth to a full-grown adult.
