Zombie Creeping Flesh | 1980 | Italy | Bruno Mattei
Hugely enjoyable and outrageous, Bruno Mattei’s Zombie Creeping Flesh is a patchwork quilt with elements from a whole host of zombie films, combined with stock footage, uncredited music, and splatter effects. An experimental gas leaks from a chemical plant in New Guinea, flooding the entire spread of villages, jungles and cities nearby and causing the dead to reanimate as flesh-eaters. A band of mixed survivors, including a SWAT team and some journalists, fight to escape the carnage that surrounds them, with mixed success. Not particularly unique, the film was lumped in the same category as Zombie Flesh Eaters and The Living Dead as prosecutable, which wasn’t helped by some of the film’s gory moments, including a zombie forcing someone’s eyes out by shoving their fist in their mouth.
